My Boy Loves His Daddy
I'm not sure I can think of much that I enjoy more than hearing my kids laugh till they cry. Tonight at dinner both Sweet Pea and Handsome were in tears laughing after Stud hurt his elbow. (Where did they learn to laugh at people in pain? Ask Stud.)
After dinner was over and the giggles had finally stopped, Handsome grabbed Stud's arm and smiled tenderly at him. Then he said something I'll never forget, "Daddy, you make my heart laugh."
Precious memories!

Ants
While driving in the car yesterday I saw an ant crawl across the dashboard. I smashed it with my hand and loudly pronounced it dead. This is the conversation that followed:
Handsome: Mama, was it a boy and or a girl ant?
Me: I don't quite know.
Handsome: Why not?
Me: Well, it is hard to determine the gender of an ant.
Handsome: Why?
Sweet Pea: Because ants are so very tiny it is hard to see...their eyelashes. Usually, but not always, girl ants have longer eyelashes.
There's your answer, Handsome.

Being Summoned
This morning at 6:30 I was called to Handsome's room. This is the conversation that followed:
Handsome (with a charming smile): I want you to snuggle with me!
Me (smiling right back): What? You think you can just snap your fingers and I'll come running for a snuggle?
Handsome: Well, I can't whistle yet.

My Tender-Hearted Girl
Sweet Pea has a tender heart. When she was about three and a half years old we tried to watch Charlotte's Web. We made it to when Fern leaves Wilbur so she can go to school. The movie showed Wilbur running back and forth along a fence trying to get to her. I looked at Sweet Pea and saw huge tears running down her cheeks. She looked at me and said, "He wants his Mama!" Then she started sobbing. We stopped the movie.
When Sweet Pea was around five years old we tried again. While watching I suddenly realized that Charlotte dies. I grabbed the remote in time to edit a little and explained to Sweet Pea that Charlotte didn't go home with Wilbur because she goes to live somewhere else. Sweet Pea was sad, but she managed.
This week Sweet Pea started reading Charlotte's Web to me. While we were still on the first page Fern's pa takes an ax outside to "do away with the runt." Cautiously and delicately, I explained what a runt is and why they would do away with it. Sweet Pea thought a little and then, as I expected my little tender-hearted girl would, she looked very distraught. She looked at me and said, "Mom! Couldn't they just make him into bacon?"
My tender-hearted, but practical bacon-loving daughter.

Not Praying for Sweet Pea
Last night at bedtime I asked Sweet Pea what I should pray about for her. She answered, "Pray that the years go by quickly."
Yeah, I ain't praying that.
Yeah, I ain't praying that.

Wisdom
Last night Handsome was loving on Little Lamb and kissing her. Then he said, "Hi, Little Lamb, you're so sweet. I'm going to slice you in two. That's the smart thing to do."
(We've been reading about Solomon.)

Knitting
It was just about a year ago that God started knitting. He knit Little Lamb together in my womb. She is truly fearfully and wonderfully made.
Some days ago Stud was loving on Little Lamb and telling her how sweet she was and how God knit her together. Then he said, "That's why babies are so sweet. They just had God's hands all over them."

Prayers from Handsome
After Grandma and Papa left for Chicago last week Sweet Pea (and I) cried and cried. (I had told her we couldn't cry in anticipation of their leaving because that would waste the sweet time we had left with them. I promised her she and I would have a good cry together after they were gone. As soon as the door shut after our good-byes, she held me to the "good cry" promise.) We finally dried our tears and joined the rest of the family. As soon as she sat down, Sweet Pea started crying again. Handsome ran up to me and said, "Mama, we need to pray for Sweet Pea QUICKLY!" I agreed and asked him to pray. And pray my little man of faith did!
"Dear God, Thank you that Sweet Pea stop crying. Thank you that Bama come back tomorrow. Amen."
A few days later Handsome was loving on Little Lamb and saw the hemangioma on her head. He told me he would pray for her booboo. "Dear God, Thank you that Little Lamb's booboo go away. Thank you that You keep her safe from tigers. Thank you for elephants. Amen."

The REAL Question
Handsome: Why baby come out of mommy's tummy?
Me: Because God said it was time for the baby to come out.
Sweet Pea: The real question is: How did the baby GET INTO mommy's tummy?
